The components of sexual development and their relative independence: Masculine genitals appear only if y chromosome is present with it"s sry masculinizing gene. Dax and sry gene are antagonistic to each other. Psychological sense of self as male or female established early in life. Gender dysphoria: person uncomfortable with biological gender and identifies with opposite one. Less traditionally sex typed in attitudes and behaviours. More successful for females than males in our culture. Cross dressing behaviour typically only defined in men bc women"s dress codes have so much more latitude in our culture. Variations in sex role typed behaviours typically independent of other aspects of sexual development. Homosexuality is not pathological but associated w increased stress bc of societal prejudice. Preference independent of gender identity and sex role behaviours. Initial incidence primarily concenrated in gay men and drug users but has spread well beyond these communities.
