Document Summary

Predictive stimulus is the cs, symbolized by cs+ as the + signifies the presence of the us. With inhibitory conditioning, the cs is labeled cs- bc it"s associated with absence of us. Inhibitory conditioning occurs when a cs- predicts that no us will occur. Prereq for inhibitory conditioning: in order for a cs- to signal no us or be anything of value, that us has to be expected to occur without the cs- Two ways to develop conditioned inibitions: pavlov"s procedure for conditioned inhibition. On excitatory conditional trials, animal receives pairings of cs+ and us. On inhibitory trials, cs+ and cs- are presented together followed by no us. When cs- is presented in excitatory context of cs+ but no us occurs, its attributed to the cs- rather than the cs+ and the cs- acquires inhibitory properties: negative cs-us contingency or correlation.
