PS260 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Rhode Island Route 2, Anterograde Amnesia, Autobiographical Memory
Document Summary
Memories that are not rehearsed or acivated will gradually fade/erode with ime. Forgeing due to: interference of early memories on later memories (proacive interference); old memories afect learning/remembering new memories, interference of later memories on earlier memories (retroacive interference) Asked rugby players to recall names of other teams they played. Dif players played dif number of games due to injury, schedule, illness etc. This means the last game could have been 2-4 weeks prior. Test of decay theory: examined efect of retenion interval with number of games held constant. Test of interference: examined efects of number of intervening games with rentenion interval (weeks) constant. Retenion interval (ime passing) had very litle efect. Number of intervening games had very large efect. Interference had greater efect on forgeing than decay. Two efects of interference (wixted, 2005: retroacive interference interferes with new memories, new memories are consolidated over ime, the formaion of ne memories interferes with consolidaion of recent memories.
