PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Body Mass Index, Karl Lagerfeld, Human Body Weight
Document Summary
Moivaion (cid:1) all of the processes that iniiate, direct, and sustain behaviour (cid:1) moives are needs on desires that direct or energize our behaviour (cid:1) goal directed. Two types (cid:1) when moives are internal they push us to act - call these drives (cid:1) when moives are external (or outside of us) we call them incenives - they pull or enice us to act. When body is cold, it shivers and you get goosebumps - natural. You don"t tell body to do it, it happens involuntary (cid:1) how does homeostasis work: autonomic nervous system - sympatheic and parasympatheic. These systems control the compensatory mechanisms: hypothalamus - governs or controls the system (cid:1) hunger is an anomaly. However, all of them (heat, hunger, etc) work to maintain homeostasis. The primary drives: thirst and hunger (cid:1) primary drive - stems from unlearned moives to saisfy biological needs (cid:1) saisied through relexive compensatory mechanisms coupled with directed behaviour (cid:1) ex.
