PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Color Vision, Observational Learning, Habituation
Document Summary
Tactile, auditory, and chemical perceptual systems operating at birth. Will orient towards source of signi cant stimuli. Can learn to associate two stimuli together if one reliably predicts the other. Rooting re ex touching around cheek and baby will orient toward touch. The moro re ex when startled by lack of support to the head, the baby will ail their arms out and in. Grasping re ex when the baby palm is touched they squeee in a very strong grip. At 6 months, 50 % od adult weight. At brith, brainstem and midbrain most developed. First areas of the cerebrum to mature. Last areas: associative areas of the cortex. From 1/40th of the visual acuity of adults at birht to 20/20 vision at 6 months. Phoneme discrimination exceed that of an adults. Cephacaudal principle: development proceeds from head to foot. Head is largest and body develops later. Proximodistal principle: development proceeds from innermost to outer.
