Helps bring about major, positive changes by moving group members beyond their self-interests and towards the good of the group, organization, or society. Essence is in developing and transforming people. In contrast, transactional leadership is focused on routine transactions and rewarding group members for meeting standards. Makes little effort to help followers satisfy their needs. Followers engage in activities for a reward (e. g. , salary or bonus) but are not engaged in the work, not inspired by the vision (if there is one!) Leadership that involves corrective criticism, negative feedback, and negative. Active - watches follower closely to identify mistakes/rule violations. Passive - intervenes only after standards have not been met or problems. Leader is attentive to the needs and motives of followers and tries to help followers reach their fullest potential.
