This was a factor that made douglas realize health care should be affordable. At the age of 13 he left high school to work in a factory. Became a printing press operator (apprenticeship) and became a qualified tradesman. Winnipeg general strike (1919) had a great impact on douglas. Democratic socialism: reform of the capitalist system, promote a welfare state that redistributes wealth in society.
