Document Summary
Copd: stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (pulmonary refers to the lungs) Leading cause smoking (80-90% of all cases result from this) Other causes: air pollution, chemicals, dust, and many other reasons. These are diseases occurring in the lungs: airways become blocked, emphysema (this is combined with chronic bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, asthma. No cure, but it can be controlled to some extent. Average age is 65 = known as an older individual disease. Cough= heavy and sticky mucus (congested chest unable to remove some of that mucus) Staying away from kids due to germs ect. Bronchodilators- a drug that causes widening of the bronchi (better able to breath = more air exchange) Oxygen air has higher oxygen content than air we normally breath in. More air exists on the top portion of the lungs. Study analyzed participants diet quality and compared to diagnosis of new copd cases. More processed foods = diet score decreases.
