To be a cosmopolitan is someone who is familiar with the whole world. See themselves as a member of a wider world. Esperanto was a language that was supposed to be a universal language, it didn"t work. Yet, people still wanted to be nationalists (this us why esperanto didn"t work) Sport is used all over the world. Edmund hillary (nz) and tenzing norgay (nepalese sherpa) 9th expedition funded hillary to do it. They tried to climb it 9 times, but that was the rst time someone made it back. They funded 400+ people, hoped at least one of them would get to the top. Demonstration of british arete, because they didn"t get anything else out of it. Reached the summit on the day of queen elizabeth"s coronation. 1896 - first olympic games know this date. Pure athletes (amateurs - i. e. us collegians) This didn"t work, so after greece they went to paris > st louis > london > stockholm.
