Infecious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi. Can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another e. g. hepaiis, malaria, stds. Non-infecious or non-communicable are medical condiions or diseases which cannot be transmited person to person. Not all infecious diseases are chronic. e. g. , stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, Person is sick because they have cancer (treatment) Does not consider reasons why a person may be sick. What the person was being exposed to in the environment was the issue. >30% of all deaths occurred among children <5 y. Infecious disease - leading cause of these deaths. Leading cause of death shited to chronic diseases. Non modiiable risk factors: those that cannot be manipulate or changed. Modiiable risk factors: those you can do something about. E. g. diet, physical acivity, smoking behaviours, alcohol consumpion, and body weight. Smoking behaviours (increasing risk of copd, cancer etc. ) Alcohol consumpion (also causes high blood pressure)
