GG102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Periphery Countries
Document Summary
Gg102 lecture 10: elongated: a state that is thin but extremely long. Can be harder to defend due to weak points and harder to govern due to possible limited governmental influence in far regions. An example of this is norway: perforated: a state that surrounds another state completely. The surrounded nation can only be accessed by going through the perforated nation, which could be difficult if there are hostilities between the two states. An example of this is south africa which completely surrounds lesotho. How are populations changing: the population in periphery and semi periphery countries has been rapidly growing in the last couple of decades. Overpopulation is occurring in areas where too many people are being born but not enough people are dying. However, more developed countries are experiencing populations growth beginning to slowdown, stabilize or even begin to decline.
