Postulate 1: paricle volume: a gas consists of a large collecion of individual paricles, he volume of an individual paricle is really small compared to the volume of the container. Postulate 3: paricle collisions and moion: the forces of atracion between molecules in a gas are negligible. Molecules do not inluence one another: collisions with container walls are short, when molecules collide they transfer kineic energy. The average kineic energy of a gas depends on its temperature and its mass. The average speed of molecules of a gas is greater at higher temperature. Species with diferent molecular masses have the same average kineic energies at any given temperature, but the smaller molecules have a greater average speed. For example, they could be moving very fast one second, then collide with another molecule and transfer energy to the other molecule and be siing almost sill at another instant.
