Document Summary

Blackbody radiaion: a black body is an idealized object that absorbs all electromagneic radiaion that falls on it, because no light is releced or transmited, the onject appears black when it is cold. Red hot objects have a spectral peak at 675 nm. The sun has a blackbody temperature of 5750 k. Classical physics could not explain the emission of light by heated solids. It predcted that the intensity of the radiaion emmited would increase indeinityly at higher energy (lower wavelength) Quantum: refers to a discrete unit of energy that is the smallest quanity by which the energy of a system can change. Quantum theory: is based on the proposiion that energy transfers occur in the form of iny, discrete units called quants. Whenever an energy transfer ocurs, it must involve an enire quantum.
