Omission includes failing to report child abuse, or failing to provide life necessities. To be convicted of most crimes, typically both are required. Criminal code of canada, applies to the entire country vs u. s. a each state has their own criminal code (ie. gun laws, death penalties) Ignorance of the law = not an excuse. No one should be tried twice for the same crime. General applies to the population, whereas specific deterrence applies to an individual. Common law- law that is based on custom, tradition and practice and is generally unwritten accepted way of doing things.
