Assault 1 intentional force or threat (without consent), minor forms of contact/no contact/threats of contact. Presence of weapon, bodily harm (possibility of harm is greater) Assault 3 aggravated, wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers life (if you need medical help as a result of the attack: most serious, smallest number of the three. Major changes: rape, gender-neutral (males can also be sexually assaulted), spousal (assault didn"t cover enough: no more rape laws (now falls under sexual assault) Non-consensual for sexual purpose, usually minor (ex. Kissing/touching without consent), usually involves no physical harm. Level 3 aggravated sexual assault, serious harm to victim where the person is harmed. Reporting of crime: the most under reported crime, at least 90% of sexual assault go unreported. Reasons: fear (not being believed or being harassed, fear of retaliation, anticipate poor treatment from police, police and courts (secondary victimization, police don"t take sexual assault seriously, responsibility (feel that they are responsible for their victimization)
