Motivation willingness to exert high levels of effort toward organizational goals to satisfy some individual need; extent to which persistent effort is directed toward a goal. Intrinsic motivation stems from the direct relationship between the worker and the task, usually self-applied. Extrinsic motivation stems from the work environment external to the task; it is usually applied by others. Performance extent to which an organizational member contributes to achieving the objectives of the organization. Motivation clearly contributes to performance but the relationship is not one to one because several other factors also influence performance.
