Field research: data is collected in a natural setting, researcher observes and makes notes. Historical-comparative research: researchers use documents, historical data, and statistics to compare social phenomena across times and/or cultures. Content analysis: some similarities to quantitative content analysis, but analysis is qualitative, currently often facilitated by sophisticated software.
