Document Summary
French philosopher and historian (although he was neither in the traditional sense) Once the most highly paid philosopher in the world. (as professor of history of systems of thought, college de france) Foucault offers us a critique of the enlightenment; of reason; of power; of society. He shows us that knowledge is being used to control us (knowledge becomes a form of power). Michel foucault beyond good and evil 1993 (41 minutes) Speaking of foucault, the famous philosopher richard rorty comments: As far as i can see, all he has to offer are brilliant redescriptions of the past, supplemented by helpful hints on how to avoid being trapped by old historiographical assumptions. Rorty is saying that there doesn"t seem to be a new way of thinking offered by foucault but a negation of what has come before now a clearing away of ideas/beliefs/powers. Foucault is a radical thinker, even an anarchist.
