Very concerned our world is being controlled by elites and small groups with private interest. Believes that what is happening behind the scene is far from the actual facts. Most people don"t have the time or care about actually looking up the actual facts. Naive for us to believe that we actually know what is going on in our world. Life is being ltered - some things are going through the lter and some things do not make it through. Ve lters on mainstream news: size and concentration of ownership, advertising, sources, ak, anti-communism (dichotomization) Chomsky and herman argue that the lters work so naturally that news media people are able to convince themselves they choose and interpret events objectively. Ultimate goal is to get us to think for ourselves in a way to challenge dominant thought.
