BI308 Lecture 7: BI308 – Lecture #7
Document Summary
Some animals eat clay to suck the toxins out of the prey they eat. How would climate change affect the way animals have adapted to getting toxins out of their food. Marginal value theorem as an organism continues to forage in a specific place, the marginal value diminishes. How long to stay foraging in one place is related to the travel time. The longer the travel time would most cases would stay in one patch longer and vice versa. Search time comes into play when an animal is deciding whether or not to accept a food item or to reject a food item in preference to something lese (handling time fits into this). Looking at graph: foraging effort (search time) if you put the travel time on x axis (short travel time would have steep optimality and would be shorter)
