Before we were thinking about an animal on its own. The decisions it makes it based on how it estimates what it should be doing not in relationship to others in the population. Conflict interests who gets the food item. Common interests cooperating with others to get larger prey. Maximum pay out = if everyone puts in all 20 they get 40 back. Temptation to cheat (stuart), retain a little bit but get the same pay out as everyone else. In a repeated game, everyone"s contribution should be to 0 (everyone keeps their own ) Pay off starts to decrease as people start to realize that contributing doesn"t always pay off. Maybe pay back would be relative to what you put into it.
