Document Summary

Chloroplasts and mitochondria are not part of the endomembrane system. Alpha proteobaceria was engulfed by prokaryote cells 1. 9 bya . Cyanobacteria (photosyntheic bacteria) engulfed by eukaryoic cells that already contained mitochondria 1. 6 bya: animals. Mitochondria an chloroplasts resemble prokaryotes in numerous ways: morphology (outer membrane, reproducion (division, geneic transformaion, transcripion and translaion, electron transport. Circular vs linear dna shape between cells. Respiraion is very important with the transport train. Prokaryotes can exist in many environments other organisms cant. They have their own dna and ribosomes and can make their own proteins. Several thousand proteins are needed for chloroplasts and mitochondria to funcion. Genes on the genome have been transferred to the nucleus. Losing genes to the nucleus, but is very important for the funcion of mitochondria but sill makes the protein. Protein is reproduced then put back into the nucleus.
