Document Summary
3rs of policing random patrol, rapid response, reactive investigations definition and general facts. 3rs shorthand way of referring to 3 traditional cornerstones of police response to crime: random patrol, rapid response and reactive investigations. Although still widely in use in within policing, many police agencies and criminologists view some or all of these approaches as largely ineffective or outdated. (found to be ineffective) The random patrol tactic is cited as necessary due to the need for rapid response, as well as on the belief that a visible police presence, and/or the possibility of police presence, can deter would-be offenders. Rapid response refers to the police practice of responding as quickly as possible to calls for service. This approach is based on the belief that decreased response times can have positive effects on citizen satisfaction and increase the likelihood of an apprehension. This style can be contrasted to proactive investigations in which officers look for opportunities to prevent crime.
