Most factors have only small to moderate effects on delinquency -- no factor perfectly explains delinquency. We have a lack of good, solid research on which factors have the greatest impact: lack of longitudinal studies, national longitudinal survey of child and youth - tracks them over time. Trait: relatively stable ways that an individual may perceive their environment and one"s self. People with certain traits more likely to engage in youth crime: low intelligence, learning disability, adhd, impulsivity, risk-seeking, recued ability to learn from punishment, irritability, insensitivity/ low empathy, poor social skills, immature moral reasoning, low verbal iq.
