Difficult for us to measure and accurately understand youth crime. As it changes over time we measure it differently. There are various sources we can use to measure youth crime. Police crime data not a lot of information on youth crime, and not as accurate as it can be. Police and courts are primarily responsible for collecting this crime data. Youth crime is really about numbers and what they represent. Again we see this concept of social construction. How society responds to a particular event or act will determine what the new policy will be, etc. Learn from different methods and be cognizant of their limitations. The media wont neccesarily provide the necessary context like demographics, etc. For example if youth crime goes up, maybe theres: An increase of young people in the area. Maybe prosecutor is more right wing, maybe policies have changed, policing might change. The more surveillance on you the more likely youll be charged.
