Rules regarding trial procedures and taking evidence and presenting evidence, jury selection. Private law: concerned with relationships between individuals or organizations, or individuals and individuals, or organizations and organizations, for example: family laws. Public law: structure of the government, duties and powers of officials and relationships between individual and state. Civil law: known as private law, violation of civil law is called a tort. Statute: a written law passed by a legislator, signifies the elevation from a bill to a law, Statutory law: encompasses all status passed by legislators.
