Everyone takes care of themselves and their immediate family only. Personal opinions are expected; others are classified as individuals. People born into families/clans that protect them in exchange for loyalty. Individual explanations= attributions of responsibility for social problems. Sociology does not do individualistic explanations, it focuses on patterns in social phenomena, seeks to understand causes/processes that produce them/ meaning of those phenomena/consequences/ whether or not they can or should be changed + how. Common elements in ideas of nature of sociology: (cid:272)ie(cid:374)(cid:272)e a(cid:374)d (cid:862)the s(cid:272)ie(cid:374)tifi(cid:272)(cid:863) how we look at what we do. Interactions and interrelations what we look at. Institutions and the collective what we look at. Lens of the social world with levels of analysis: Micro: individuals and small groups as they are structured by society.
