It"s the rules & belief systems that oppress the people in it. Sociologists care about what goes on in the walls. Social order and stability are dependent on formalised structures (in developed countries: we are too advanced and our needs & wants are too all consuming and we need a social infrastructure that reflects that. Role selection & performance cultural values & norms social institutions socialisation . There is a way in which values & norms become crystalized and become located in structures: how we understand who we are & what we"re allowed to do is formed by socialisation. Create order using criteria for inclusion & exclusions. Iq scores: citizenship scores, gmat/lsat score, blood tests, vaccine records, criminal record. Social detriments of health: where you live, level of education. Income level: marital status, environmental degradation, gender equality, child poverty. Theoretical approaches to study of health and wellness. Functionalism: sickness must be controlled or managed so that it doesn"t become dysfunctional.
