The first time he gets outside of the palace walls and see how other people live. He sees that everything that he has is pointless and turns away from his palace and family and he gives it up. Tries to understand why there is suffering in the world. Buddhism is referred to as the middle way . He begins to moderate his spiritual practices and wants to truly understand what life is all about. He comes to understand the true meaning of reality and that there were people before him who have become enlightened.
