A common emoion physical symptoms, future-oriented thoughts, and escape or avoidance behaviours (worry) Occurs when people encounter a new situaion or anicipate a life-changing event. Usually ime-limited and ends when the event is over. Two classic behavioural symptoms of anxiety: fearing a situaion, avoiding the situaion. Behavioural therapy reduce patern of negaive reinforcement that maintains the avoidance behaviour. Acivaion of sns triggered by fear or stress: sympatheic nervous system (sns): increases heart rate and respiraion, parasympatheic nervous system (pns): slows down the heart rate and respiraion. For abnormal, must consider: funcional impairment, sociodemographic factors, developmental age. Heightened physical arousal, cogniive distress, and behavioural avoidance of feared objects/situaions/events. Comorbidity 57% of people with one anxiety disorder also have another anxiety disorder or depression. 31. 2% of adults will sufer someime in their lives. Most common disorder among all age groups. Discrete period of intense fear and physical arousal develops abruptly.
