Document Summary
Instead of assuming that humans are inherently evil. From basic survival needs to self actualization. Organized, consistent set of belief and perceptions. Can"t hold the belief that you are a good person, then lie. Can"t perform behaviours that are contrary to your beliefs. If you are well adjusted you will modify your beliefs and actions to fit in with your self-concept. Inconsistent or non-congruence leads to threats to self. Belief that everything you are doing is worthwhile and beneficial. Created from unconditional positive regard from parents (and self) Constantly trying make sure that you are pleasing the right people. Instead of saying they have a problem, you validate what the patient is saying and go from there to help them together. High self-esteem related to positive social life and happiness. Difficult to define or predict what will be a self actualizing tendency. Theory states that everything people do is for self-actualization.
