Ethnic group: community claiming common language, religion, and ancestry. Nation: ethnicity plus desire for political autonomy, usually statehood. Nation-state: territory of state matches boundaries of national community. National self determination: the principle supporting the creation of nation-states. Nationalism was tested when differences between different races and religions and yugoslavia decided it needed a state to monitor. Used as common justification for national liberation struggle. Regeneration of the nation as distinctive civilization rather than as a discrete political. The primary" concept of the nation is its ethnic or cultural entity. Cultural nationalism is mystical" in that it is based on a romantic belief in the nation as a unique , historical and organic whole, animated by its spirit. Borders, not culture people bonded by citizenship. Political nation a nation in which citizenship has greater influence than ethnic identity.
