Somebody who had to flee their home country due to persecution. Half of the refugees are under 18, turkey holds the most number of refugees, most refugees in modern day times come from syria. Why now? (why are there so many refugees now?) Alan kurdi drowned with his older brother and mother (happened last week) Europe s quota plan to take in 160,000 refugees. Some countries are resisting (ie: britain, slovakia) Hundreds of thousands have more to come (germany is willing to take hundreds and thousands of people, canada is less willing to take so many refugees) Syria: civil war, over 200,000 killed (closer to 250,000 now), has been in civil war since 2011, 4 million refugees, lack of government, education. Denmark: well-governed, peaceful, happy, excelled health and education. It is not intelligence, propensity to violence, or even geography that explains the differences between denmark and syria. It is the state, the rule of law, and accountable government.
