Attract support from aristocratic landowners and working class. Address working class needs: improve working conditions; support right to organize and strike. Encourage working class to support monarchy and church. First strand: cultural conservatives reject rationalist pursuit of perfection and harmful effects of capitalism. Second strand: economic conservatives defend liberal society and laissez- faire capitalism. Conservative distrust of democracy because it leads to chaos and dictatorship. We should entrust government to an elite. Economic conservatives: ball, dagger, and o(cid:495)neill call them (cid:494)individualist conservatives(cid:495, free markets, low taxes, small government, rugged individualism, freedom to compete without government interference.
