We live in the most peaceful era in all of human history. War is declining since the end of the cold war. Huge decline of war deaths despite the syrian civil war. Prehistoric humans had a 15% chance of being killed by violence and now it is 3% during war times. Why might the world be becoming less violent: The consequences of war are much more serious than they are now. Economic globalization: you do(cid:374)"t (cid:449)o(cid:374)t to kill people (cid:449)ho (cid:271)e(cid:374)efit you e(cid:272)o(cid:374)o(cid:373)i(cid:272)ally (cid:449)he(cid:374) you trade (cid:449)ith them, mutual gain rather than temporary superiority. Reason and intelligence: slavery is still illegal, dueling is not longer apparent, abuse toward children, violence toward children, women, homosexuals. Development of states: preserves order within a particular territory. Laws assign rights and duties: the rule of law, bills tell you have you are entitled to. Example: hispaniola (haiti and the dominican republic: different environmental conditions, consequences of political decisions, economic success.
