Pharmacology 3620 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Neuroprotection, Luteinizing Hormone, Adenylyl Cyclase
Document Summary
We are responsible for things he says and the slides!! There will be spots where will write out notes for concepts that stude(cid:374)ts ha(cid:448)e pro(cid:271)le(cid:373)s (cid:449)ith. Drugs act only in a few spots but can have many actions. Some of these a(cid:272)tio(cid:374)s, (cid:449)e do(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:373)pletel(cid:455) know yet. The synapse is the major site of action; where the signals are transmitted to the next neuron. Axons contain lots of mitochondria, which provide energy to reload the vesicles with nt. Vesicles are filled with neurotransmitters and dense-core vesicles. Dense-core vesicles are further vesicles filled with neuropeptides. Post-synaptic densities are where ion channels and nt receptors are located, and receive the nts released by the pre-synaptic neuron. There are often feedback mechanisms which control the pre-s(cid:455)(cid:374)apti(cid:272) (cid:374)euro(cid:374)"s release of nts (e. g. ssris primary site of action is on the pre-synaptic terminals). The (cid:862)(cid:271)ig t(cid:449)o(cid:863) (cid:374)eurotra(cid:374)s(cid:373)itters are glutamate & gaba: glutamate is usually an excitatory nt and gaba is an inhibitory nt.
