Quiz 2 avg 82% (a huge increase from quiz 1) Should doctors provide a specific treatment when the patient asks for it: doesn"t seem right, one popular answer: medical futility. If something is medically futile, the doctor doesn"t have to provide the treatment. Argument starts w: medical futility doesn"t do the job that we need it to, patient demands might include: Treatment that cannot work (or has very low chance of working) A high blood-pressure patient demands a new drug in development (not licenced yet) Breast cancer: patient has a relative that used a treatment 40 years ago and was cured. Quantitative mf <0/100: treatment that cannot work 0/100, experimental treatment 80/100, outmoded treatment 80/100. Mf doesn"t provide grounds to refuse the latter two cases. There"s something wrong w/ mf doesn"t cover moral grounds. We need an answer that gets all of these cases right.
