Document Summary
Overview: anatomy, histology, normal function, diagnosing liver disease, grading and staging of liver disease, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease. List some basic liver functions and some manifestations of liver disease. Identify the 3 stages of alcoholic liver disease when presented with histologic descriptions. If an adenoma forms between the right & left hepatic duct, it"s (cid:272)alled a klatskin tumour: gall bladder is tucked under right lobe. Anatomy gall bladder: heisters spiral valve is present in the cystic duct connecting from the common hepatic duct to the gall bladder. Because there is only one passageway and bile must flow to and from the gallbladder, the heister spiral valve allows bi-directional flow: from the cystic duct, it connects to the cbd & then pancreatic duct. Lobules are anastomosing sheets/cords of hepatocytes & comprise of parenchyma of the liver: between cords = vascular sinusoids, which bathe each hepatocyte with blood (cid:862)tv(cid:863) = ter(cid:373)i(cid:374)al vei(cid:374) or (cid:272)e(cid:374)tral vei(cid:374)
