Vegetative signs of depression: nutrition - anorexia, sleep - insomnia, self-care deficits, elimination - constipation. Red flags: history of alcohol, or drug use, chronic pain, complex medical conditions, psychiatric concerns/history, complain about nerves, losses vision, hearing, sleep, changes in adls, abuse, stresses ptsd e. g. , loss of a child, or partner. Usually, depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks: bipolar ii disorder: a pattern of depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes, but no full-blown manic or mixed episodes, cyclothymic disorder: mild form of bipolar disorder. Episodes of hypomania as well as mild depression for at least 2 years. However, the symptoms do not meet the diagnostic requirements for any other type of bipolar disorder: rapid cycling: (4 or more mood episodes in a 12 month period. Need good kidney function, and adequate daily fluid intake. A provocatively dressed client diagnosed with bipolar i disorder is observed laughing loudly with peers in the milieu.
