It is believed that demography is destiny, demographic change is reality, and demographic sensitivity is imperative (geiger & davidhizar, 2004, p. 4) Our demographic influences our future and we must be aware if it. Range of patterned behavioral responses that develop over time through social and religious customs and intellectual and artistic activity. Shaped by values, beliefs, and norms that are shared by members of the same cultural group. It is passed down from one generation to the next. It is a dynamic, ever-changing active or passive process. Can include: language, ethnicity, spiritual/religious beliefs, and practices. May also include ses, gender, sexual orientation, age, group history, geographic origin, education and child/life experiences (potter & perry, 2010) When cultures merge causes a cultural dilution. Cultural shift happens both passively and actively. Developing sensitivity and understanding of another ethnic group. This usually involves internal changes in terms of attitudes and values.
