We need to be aware of the legislation. Most common cause for the nurse to be in legal trouble is she strayed from the legislation. The regulated health professions act, 1991 contains provisions regarding permitted actions & processes that are applicable to all regulated health professionals in ontario. The nursing act, 1991 contains a scope of practice statement & controlled acts authorized to nursing, as well as provisions & regulations specific to the nursing profession. It includes definitions of the classes of nurse registration, entry-to-practice & title protection regulations, & regulations on initiating controlled acts. Together, the nursing act, 1991 & the regulated health professionals act, 1991 determine how the nursing profession is regulated in ontario.
