Signifier = form linked to an idea, can take many forms. Signified = idea or concept linked to the signifier. Language is not a nomenclature translation from one language to another is hard. Langue = rules that make up a system of language. Parole = individual speech acts, what users do with the system. Synchronic = study language at particular moment in time. Diachronic = study language as it changes through time.
