Media, Information and Technoculture 2154F/G Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: The Canadian Press
Document Summary
Before you go out to cover an event, what do you do: usually you have time ahead to get ready, so make the most of it- don"t show up unprepared. Details: what position did the person finish in the judging, a profile of that person is a good approach, but make it more than just a profile, make sure the event aspects are in the story. Tools: notepads, extra pens or pencils, check batteries, if you are doing it all on your phone, take photos. Follow up: get a phone number before you leave. Be open to possibilities: don"t limit yourself to spokespersons, others at the event may have insight, anecdotes. Writing reminders: rhythm is key, read the story out loud, read out leads of different stories, commas and other punctuation can slow up a lead so don"t load in too many subordinate clauses.
