Fandom as productive: media producers now cater to fans and fandoms, active audiences ppl can produce their own things out of texts beyond what the author put in, not invention of media producers. All new media are disruptive disrupts ways of doing business, accessing content, interacting w people, etc. New media now: digital media, smart phones, computers, etc, analog media. Linear, time bound, hard to alter: sometimes we still follow analog models, but digital media has been disruptive. Digital: non-linear, malleable, virtual, plentiful, always available, user controlled (kind of)
