Kinesiology 3222A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Renal Pelvis, Renal Calyx, Ureter
Document Summary
Describe the structure and function of the ureters. Explain the histology of the urinary bladder and its role in micturition. Indicate the di erences in structure of the urethras of males and females, and explain how they a ect the organ"s function. Outline the a ects of aging on the urinary system. Blood is ltered through the nephron, to collecting duct-> papillary duct. Urine drains through the minor calyces -> major calyces. No anatomical valve at the opening to the urinary bladder. P of increased urine compresses oblique openings: infection possible if not working properly; it"s possible for microbes to travel up the ureters from the urinary bladder to infect one or even both kidneys. Similar to other tubular structures in the body, the ureters are formed from three layers of tissue. Three layers of tissue form the wall of the ureters: mucosa, muscular, adventitia.
