Paired air spaces within bones of the skull functioning to: help warm the air o. Participates in sound resonance: decreases weight of the skull. 4 pairs: maxillary, frontal, sphenoidal, ethmoidal. Made of skeletal muscle, lined with mucous membrane. Uvula - hangs from soft plate: moves superior along with soft palate to close off during swallowing, auditory tube - connects nasopharynx to middle ear. Between end of soft plate and hyoid bone.
