High blood glucose levels during pregnancy (without previously being diagnosed with diabetes) Babies born from mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus are at a higher risk of complications > growth abnormalities and chemical imbalances (ie low blood sugar) Obesity (4x the greater risk of gdm when obese) Increased body size/birth weight > increased body fat % Higher risk for childhood obesity and metabolic disorders.
