Law is an accumulation of rules and regulations that govern our behaviour. Courts interpret the statutes or rules and fill in any gaps left by the legislature. See "the u. s. legal system and the ncaa" in the textbook. Ncaa has gotten in trouble with the law a couple times. Civil law: between two independent people; between organization and a person. Criminal law: the government/ province taking legal action against someone: v. sebastian. Judges establish the application and interpretation of a statute. Title ix: was intended to provide equality for the sexes at all american post secondary institutions that received federal funding. There need to be representative options for both men and women at the colleges. Don"t need to be perfectly equal ( can show that you"re working towards equality) Title ix of the educational amendments of 1972. Three areas generally evaluated for compliance with title ix. Civil wrong or injury for which the law permits a recovery.
