Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Pes Cavus, Flat Feet, Sagittal Plane
Document Summary
Kinesiology 2241b lecture 15: the trunk and torso. The foot is made up of several bones that each articulate with one another. The height of the medial longitudinal arch is controlled by the internal and external rotation of the lower leg. Leg internal rotation arch drops, foot flexible. Leg external rotation arch rises, foot becomes rigid. Foot pain can occur when the arch is always too high and rigid (pes cavus) or the arch is too low and flexible (pes planus) these conditions are often treated with orthotics. Regardless of the arches, when standing quietly all five toes should be on the ground. When they don"t, it"s called forefoot varus or valgus depending on the direction of the twist of the foot. The legs have a proper alignment as well. The two legs should be symmetrical, the lower legs vertical and the pelvis horizontal.
