Despite the health, social and personal benefits of exercising, many people still choose not to exercise. Even after increasing physical activities, people must continue with their exercising/activities. ~50% of individuals drop out of exercise programs within 6 mo. Can have a positive or negative association with pa. Two broad categories: personal factors, environmental factors. Can really influence whether people are going to be pa or not. I don"t have time one of the biggest excuses. People who are pa feel like they still don"t have time. Personal factors: demographic variables: age, gender, education, health status, weight, income/socioeconomic status, occupation. Best predictors: education, male gender, and higher income/socioeconomic status: cognitive and personality variables: attitudes, barriers, enjoyment, expectations, intentions, knowledge, time, perceived health or fitness, self-efficacy, self-motivation. * self-efficacy : an individual"s belief they are capable of doing a particular exercise program: behaviours: diet, past physical activity patterns, past program participation, school sports, smoking, type a patterns.
